NANS GIVES SUSWAM ULTIMATUM OVER UNPAID TEACHERS’ SALARIES

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued the Benue State Governor, Mr Gabriel Suswam a 7-day ultimatum to pay up all outstanding salaries owed teachers and other workers in the state or face mass protest.

In this regard, the association said it has concluded plans to relocate its secretariat to Makurdi, to demand for payment of all outstanding salaries before May 29 hand-over date.

NANS in a statement in Abuja yesterday by its President, Comrade Tijjani Usman said the move became imperative to save education and the plight of students in the state and nation in general.

The statement recalled that the lingering issue of non-payment of salaries in the state resulted in the closure of public primary schools for nine months. The State University and other tertiary institutions that are currently on strike, also at a time stayed home for six months.
