Piloting Your Life In The Next Seven Days For Greatness

Life as a complex phenomenon has been undertaken by many, but a few of these people really had a pass mark. This is not far-fetched from the concept of the mystery of life and living.

As a result therefore, you find people who fall to the category of those with very high esteem, this category go about with much self-confidence and the others fall to that of those with inferiority complex, this feeling makes them to fail in their endeavours, but today, I'm going to be revealing:

How you can feel much important as others.
How you can live up to standards.
How you can leave above others who will not find this article before you.
And how you can pilot your life for the next seven days marching to greatness!

If you can answer this questions, then you are heading for greatness.

Why Should You Become a Better You?

What are the Benefits of Being a Better Me?

Why in the World Would I Listen to You About Being a Better Me?

Find below the Seven Great Steps to Pilot you life for GREATNESS.

1. Wake up before sunrise. This may be tough for the night owls, but this can be one of the best ways to get in tune with yourself before the chaos hits.

Take advantage of being ahead of
everyone else and enjoy the coming of the day. This practice will lead to a fresher, more alive you throughout the day if continued. The happier you start your day, the brighter the rest of the day will be.

2. Ask someone if there is anything you can help them with. Try to ask others if there is anything that you can do to make their day better. They will appreciate you more and may inspire them to pay it forward. This action usually leads to self-fulfillment knowing that you have improved the life of another.

3. Get outside and be active. I usually plead the case for getting outside so that more people would be healthier. But, today, I just want to share this action step so that you can get outside and disconnect from the world. By this I mean the digital world. Today, many of us spend all of our day in front of the television or computer screen. The
world is vast and incredible and usually it can be experienced just by walking out the front door. Take this opportunity to walk through your town or city and greet all of those you pass. Experience life in the form of nature. Do this for 30 minutes and your mind will be clearer and more alive than when you started.

4. Write down your goals for the next week. Don't look so far ahead. Enjoy everything that you want to accomplish this week. By writing down your aspirations for one week, you will be more in tune with taking action today instead of procrastination. Want to simplify your workspace? Write it down
along with small daily tasks that will
accomplish this goal. Keep it simple
and you will achieve great things that will brighten your days to come.

5. Do one thing you love. Love reading? Love running? Love talking? Love relaxing? Love writing? Whatever it is that you love, try doing that for some period of your day. When we experience the things we love, we tend to carry that positive attitude towards
the following actions. This will increase your level of enjoyment with life so that you can be better at everything else that you do.

6. Make another person's day. You
would be surprised how much positive impact a small act can have on the person you are kind to along with the impact it has upon yourself. As stated earlier, you can ask someone if they need help. You can also tell them how great they are, write them a secret note (my girlfriend loves finding these in random places), take someone out for a meal, and so on. It doesn't have to be a big thing. It just should be something that will brighten their day.

7. Learn something new. Have you
always wanted to know how to say a
few words of Mandarin as well as
understand what you were saying?
Well, learn that one new thing today.

Take this chance to educate yourself about one thing you didn't know before today and you will be that much brighter. Education should not stop when we leave school.

By implementing this daily act, you will be capable of improving your ability to adjust to new and improved aspects of culture.

I'm pretty sure, this article will be of immense help to you. If it does, please share your opinion.

OPINION:"Buhari's Clean-sweep Administration: Realistic or a Mirage.

"Buhari's Clean-sweep Administration: Realistic or a Mirage.

High hopes are being built and with the past recorded failures of the PDP led administration since the inception of democracy in our dear country Nigeria, we craved for a better government which will in turn bring about the needed change in our country, and interestingly, our votes counted!

May 29th is the day we're all waiting for. But it should be stressed that no human being can be God and as such, we shouldn't expect miracles or some kind of magic that things will turn out as expected overnight. If we do not down-play in our expectations, many would be disappointed and how great that will be!

[ Quote]
"Blessed are those who do not expect, for they shall not be disappointed"

The major reason for expectations being high is not unconnected with the rate at which things have deteriorated, the judiciary, education, transport, other major sectors of the economy and the economy at large. All these were spearheaded by some PDP technocrat and as well, these periods endured untold suffering and hardship for the people whilst the elite class got themselves enriched massively.

Dealing with the topic proper, we need to know that Buhari has come and with what we're seeing so far, we want to believe that with him, Nigeria will become a better country.

President Goodluck Jonathan in his agenda meant good for the people and he wanted good for his government, but, the incessant beasty behaviour of the so-called elites marred the government, they directly and indirectly infuriated the people to rebel against the government. He turned out very old due to pressure from everywhere.

Another factor that contributed to the fall of his government is the psycho-social problem of the masses that brings about their gullible and insatiable nature. Whenever these omen get to play in a people, they become stiff-necked and difficult to please. And this is what GEJ faced, and it led to dissatisfaction which is the prime factor of his present status today.

Not prophecy but...
I see the same thing happening in Buhari's administration if we are not going to downplay and take whatever he's going to give to the masses. Last week, governor Suswam of Benue state presented 8 expensive SUVs to the governor-elect, Chief Samuel Ortom to facilitate the transition process, but the people misinterpreted that move and opined that Ortom's lips are being sealed by the vehicles, as a matter of fact, it's a normal thing to do when a government is leaving, it is done to facilitate the transition process. So, the goodnews is then that the faster we begin to see the positive aspect of what our leaders do, the better for us.

Take this scenario for instance, when the Chibok girls saga was up, nobody saw that the government was doing anything as to the release of the girls, but I believe that when a problem ensues, it is far better to examine the issue from inside out to know how to begin tackling. This I believe was what president Goodluck did and today after the cross examination, he has been able to track down the beasts called Boko Haram members. But instead of giving applause to him, he's being accredited as a weak president! "If he knew this, why had he not applied it in good time?" The time he applied it was the best!

He borrowed the money that is being used today! When he did that, the gullible ones who are the chief confusionists would not let us hear a single word, saying that he has borrowed that money to enrich himself and his cabinet crew before he leaves office.

"Send the Army to pull down the famous Sambisa Forest!" This was the call on the president. If he had earlier done that, where would the rescued women be today? May be dead, right? Let us not be too judgmental. Let not sentiments overshadow our sense of reasoning.

Clarion Call
Buhari's government will only be good to stand the test of time if we do not think he's a magician or a kind of semi-god who is coming to erase corruption over the night! Let's therefore wait patiently and see how things will turn out to be.

A public speaker wrote, "real change starts with us". That is to say, the change we're clamouring for should begin at us! From changing our lifestyles and attitude to how we look at things and from our perspective to that of others.

This is the only way we can build a better, stronger and a successful country with an enviable government.

1 Reason Not To Have Sex Before Marriage

There are many reasons not to have sex before marriage—or at least, we have been given many reasons not to have sex before marriage. Many Christians in their teens and young adulthood today have grown up in a church culture that frowns on premarital sex but are unfortunately given all the wrong reasons not to have sex.

These reasons range from the extreme "God will send you to hell," to perhaps the most common concern that parents and young people share: "what if you got pregnant, or contracted an STD?" The sad reality is that many Christians who grew up in church have been given a myriad of floppy reasons why they shouldn't have sex before marriage, and have been groomed to fear the consequences of premarital sex rather than to see sex and marriage the way God intended it to be.

Perhaps, on the surface, this method seems to have "worked" over the past few decades, and good churchgoing boys and girls actually seemed to have restrained themselves from "falling into this heinous and unspeakable sin." By glorifying virginity and emphasizing the negative implications, young people should think twice before they have sex. However, in recent years, with the Internet becoming a channel for free speech and the expression of opinions as well as emotions, it has become evident that such teachings have not been helpful, but in fact, detrimental.

Through the Internet and social media, we see young women writing articles and posts about how they saved themselves for marriage only to find themselves completely disillusioned when they finally get married and "give themselves to their husbands," and these posts go viral. That "wedding night" experience that was supposedly everything they had lived for up until that point in their life turned out to be the most disappointing and devastating nightmare they could have imagined.

Why? Because they kept the rules. They lived according to what tradition and culture taught them. They were raised in an environment that enforced strict and stringent morality, which caused them to fear the horrible things that could happen to them if they gave in to the ways of the world.

As a result, they completely turn away from God, their marriages suffer, and they tell the whole world that saving oneself for marriage is a bad idea. From there, stems the whole concept that women need to take control of their own bodies and sexuality. Nobody should be able to tell us what to do with our virginity—not our parents, not society, not men, and especially not the church.

While we might like to argue that only a handful of people have "suffered" such experiences, it's effects are far reaching. From the comments in these posts, we see people cheering them on, telling them, "You go, girl!" Other young girls who have been similarly raised will begin to question their convictions to keep themselves pure for marriage. Those who feel trapped in their world of rules and fear will feel liberated that finally! Someone out there knows exactly how they feel!

Yes, it is sad—in fact, it's heartbreaking. We are seeing more and more young people turn away from their Christian upbringing because it just does not seem viable in this present culture with all of its pressures. Premarital sex is running rampant among young people in our churches today. But can we blame them? Not really. If all they have been taught are the negative repercussions for giving in to temptation, then no. We cannot blame them.

Because we—the church, parents, Christian educators—have been going at it all wrong. Because in reality, there is only one reason not to have sex before marriage, and that is the same reason to avoid any and all other sins that our human nature is vulnerable to committing. Because we have placed so much emphasis on scaring our young people into sexual abstinence that we have forgotten the only and most important reason for sexual purity:

1. My love for God.

That's it. My decision not to have sex before marriage has nothing to do with what culture, tradition, society, my parents, or the church expect of me, and everything to do with me loving God and wanting to honor Him with my body and my future marriage.

Ladies, there is no such thing as "We are not having sex because my boyfriend respects me." If that is his only reason for not having sex with you, then you should not marry him because he will not be fit to be the spiritual leader of your home.

Men, there is no such thing as "We are not having sex because I respect my girlfriend." Your reason for not wanting to have sex should be the same as hers: Because you want to honor God with your body.

Christian couples, if you love each other, your reason for not having sex until you are married should be because you want to obey and honor God with your body, and because you want your significant other to obey and honor God with his or her body. There is no need to "say no," because such a question should never be posed in the first place.

That should be every Christian's stand. If your relationship with God does not mean enough to you to remain sexually pure, then by all means, go have sex. In fact, you can do more than just have sex; you can do whatever you want with your body, because sexual purity is not just about abstinence before marriage. Sexual purity encompasses every area of sexuality including extramarital sex, pornography, homosexuality, and even how far we allow our thoughts to wander.

So, if what everybody else thinks takes precedence over what God thinks, or if my fear of consequences is the only thing stopping me from indulging in sexual sin, then why bother to try to keep the rules? If obedience to God is so far down the list after all the other reasons, it only means that my relationship with Christ is not priority in my life, right? And if Christ is not priority in my life, then why should I even bother to call myself a Christian? And if I'm not a Christian, then why should I live the way Christ has called me to live?

Perhaps this is a rather radical stance, but if you think about it, isn't that the only thing that separates the Christian life from the rest of the world? The only thing that keeps us from letting our sinful nature get the better of us is Christ's forgiveness through His blood. Yes, His gift of salvation is free, and He will not retract it if we fail to obey Him.

However, the moment we give ourselves to Jesus, we are saying to God, "Yes, Lord. I want to receive your forgiveness, and I want to honor you with my life so that all glory and praise can be given back to you." Our obedience to Him is a response of love to Him because He first loved us.

Christian morality without Jesus in the picture is as good as no morality. If Christ is not the center of my life, then it makes sense for me to say that my attempts to keep myself pure for marriage is futile. The results would be unfulfilling and possibly even painful. But with the right motivation, every Christian couple who is on that journey to honor Christ together in their relationship, can look forward with anticipation for their sexual union to be every bit as beautiful as God meant for it to be.

REVEALED! TRUTH BEHIND SUSWAM’S ALLEGED “DONATION” OF SUVS TO ORTOM

There have been a public outcry and outright condemnation as news broke yesterday that the outgoing Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam donated eight SUVs worth over 150 million naira to the Governor-Elect Dr Samuel Ortom, his Deputy-Elect Engr Benson Abounu and their wives.

Many wondered why Gov Suswam who claimed the state treasury was depleted which is why state public servants are being owed several months salary and why there is a halt in project executions, will have so much funds to prosecute failed election bids for both himself and his stooge, with left over to buy these expensive exotic cars.

Others felt Dr Samuel Ortom's acceptance of the said "donation" was an act of compromise to cover Suswam's dirty tracts after he leaves office, but Benue.com.ng have gathered that this was another plot by the self acclaimed black cat of Anyiin to vilify and elicit opprobrium from the public against the incoming government to make the duo look very bad in the eyes of the public.

Gov Suswam did it with so much flourish, making it coincide with Dr Ortom's 54th birthday and in the presence of the press as to suggests that it was donation for their private use or as gifts. However, what is true and the reality was that those SUVs already belonged to the Benue State Government. They were never Suswam's to donate as he said, to smoothen the transitional arrangement. Our sources revealed that they were actually meant to be the official vehicles of the incoming Government as protocol demands. The outgoing government normally hands over these accoutrements of office quietly and without much fanfare.

Senator George Akume didn't do much fanfare when he handed over. Every other state is doing it without much noise either. That Suswam has made a meal out of it suggests smacks of desperation and an attempt to seize the narrative. He is trying to show that the new government is not any different from his.

Suswam's second tenure has been marred by inability to pay workers wages for upwards of 5-6 months including those of pensioners. Many public analysts have called on him to focus on those issues rather than resort to old tricks.

NIGERIAN EDUCATION: A NATIONAL FAILURE

The university is an institution where the highest academic qualification is obtained. It is also an institution that is supposed to prepare graduates for the professional needs of a complex and technological society. Although Nigerian universities are producing graduates in large numbers in sciences, engineering and technology, they are not prepared for the professional needs of a complex and technological society due to lack of standard laboratories, lack of good libraries, lack of good instructional materials, lack of adequate qualified lecturers, poor university funding among others. And the problem also is attributed to poor foundation of students from primary to secondary education.

The nature of our education system from primary to higher institution has led to many questions to be asked by many concern Nigerians about what the government and educators are doing about the situation.

THE NATION published an article on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from page 25 to 26 titled: POOR FOUNDATION, POOR GRADUATES. The article stated that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) lamented that almost 90 percent of Nigerian graduates cannot communicate effectively in English, which is the language of instruction in Schools and that educationists have faulted teachers, parents and technology for the problem.

The article made my organization which is established to promote academic research and excellence, NASWEM CENTRE FOR ACADEMIC RESEARCH to embark on a general survey of randomly selected Nigerian public and private schools in February 2014 with the financial support of Professor Francis X. Steiner, Professor of Biology and Chairman of Biology Department, Hillsdale College, Michigan, United States. The following were our findings:

1. Academic standards and levels of achievement had declined in Nigerian schools.

2. Most politicians and affluent Nigerians have confused and distorted the purpose of the school. Whereas the school's primary function is academic, anti-intellectual forces have made it a confused multipurpose agency. As a result, the public, parents, students, teachers, and administrators no longer have a clear concept of the school's purpose and function.

3. When compared with the school systems of other countries, especially those of the United States and Europe, Nigerian schools and students are academically inferior. This unfortunate result is due to the fact that many U.S. and European systems have national standards and institutional tracks based on students' academic abilities.

4. The entries of fundamentalist religious and culturally relative values into the schools have weakened the inherited and traditional civic, patriotic, and moral values.

5. The use of social promotion and the neglect of rigorous academic standards have caused deterioration in the quality of Nigerian education.

6. Schools have done little to correct the general decline in the fundamental moral, ethical, and civic values that is taking place in Nigeria.

7. The quality of instruction has deteriorated because of the employment of poorly prepared teachers.

8. Nigerian schools have become overly bureaucratic and expensive.

9. Problems in student achievement, such as inadequate reading, writing, comprehension, and mathematics skills.

10. Serious educational deficits in mathematics and science, the specific areas most closely related to technological progress, manifested by "a lack of general scientific and mathematical literacy" and by projected shortages of skilled scientists and engineers; this educational deficit is aggravated by poor funding.

11. A "teacher gap", resulting in a shortage of "qualified teachers in critical subjects" such as mathematics and science.

12. A low salary scale, in which teachers are paid according to "rigid salary structures" rather than a "system for rewarding exceptional teachers for their superior performance.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

After the above findings were made, the following general recommendations were made for consideration by the federal government and Nigerian educators:

1. The federal government should fund schools to create broad and effective partnership, especially with business leaders, to improve schools. Such projected "partnerships between business and schools will:
(i) encourage business leaders to share "their expertise in planning, budgeting, and management with school administrators;
(ii) customize job-training efforts between business and schools;
(iii) train students and teachers in the skills, techniques, and equipment actually used in businesses.

2. Too many schools underestimate their students' potential; they need to respect their students by raising their expectations and standards of accountability.
3. Schools, colleges, and universities should adopt more rigorous and measurable standards, and higher expectations, for academic performance and student conduct, and they should raise their requirements for admission. This will help students do their best educationally with challenging materials in an environment that supports learning and authentic accomplishment.

4. The standards for admission to teacher education programmes be raised and that prospective teachers demonstrate aptitude for teaching and competence in an academic discipline.

5. Teachers' salaries should be raised but that increases be based on effective evaluation of performance.

6. The federal government should be as a stimulator and encourager of education and as a disseminator of information on educational improvement and as a source of federal funding.

7. Teacher preparation programmes should be improved by modifying the present programmes used by schools for education.

8. The conditions for learning should be improved by employing more teachers, reducing class size and improving the quality of educational materials.

9. Talented teachers should be attracted and retained by "competitive entry-level salaries" and "rewards for competence" and do not "selectively raise the pay for a few teachers at the expense of many".

10. The traditional role of teachers should be transformed by including them "in decision-making about teaching and learning and reduce their non-instructional tasks.

11. Constructive and comprehensive teacher evaluation system should be established or existing ones should be modified to be constructive and comprehensive.

12. The federal government should fund the creation of more opportunities for professional growth and development designed by professional educators.

13. The federal government should approve funds to improve teacher education programmes according to standards that teachers "believe are basic to success in the classroom".

14. The federal government should assign higher budget priority to educational improvement and make certain that existing resources are used more effectively and efficiently, to improve educational quality.

15. The federal government should fund boards of education to provide "quality assurance in education" by establishing objective systems to measure and reward teacher effectiveness and performance. While quality assurance evaluation should reward effective teachers, it should also lead to the dismissal of those judged ineffective.

A comprehensive report of the survey was forwarded to the Federal Ministry of Education for consideration in April 2014. This one is an abridged copy.

From the look of things, it seems the recommendations of the report have not yet been implemented. I just hope Buhari's government will look into the report as a new copy will be forwarded to the Minister of Education under Buhari's government through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education.

My desire for quality education in Nigeria is built on Thomas Jefferson's philosophy of education. He was the third president of the United States from 1801 to 1809. (First President, George Washington, 1789-1797. Second President, John Adams, 1797-1801. He was succeeded by President James Madison, 1809-1817). He made it clear that: "Education is the sure foundation for the maintenance of the republic".

NANS GIVES SUSWAM ULTIMATUM OVER UNPAID TEACHERS’ SALARIES

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued the Benue State Governor, Mr Gabriel Suswam a 7-day ultimatum to pay up all outstanding salaries owed teachers and other workers in the state or face mass protest.

In this regard, the association said it has concluded plans to relocate its secretariat to Makurdi, to demand for payment of all outstanding salaries before May 29 hand-over date.

NANS in a statement in Abuja yesterday by its President, Comrade Tijjani Usman said the move became imperative to save education and the plight of students in the state and nation in general.

The statement recalled that the lingering issue of non-payment of salaries in the state resulted in the closure of public primary schools for nine months. The State University and other tertiary institutions that are currently on strike, also at a time stayed home for six months.

JIME, ORTOM CASE: JUDGE GRANTS PARTIES MORE TIME TO SETTLE OUT OF COURT

The Federal High Court, sitting today in Abuja on the case between former APC Benue governorship aspirant, Prof Steve Ugbah and three others vs State APC Chairman, Abba Yaro and three others, popularly known as Benue as Jime vs Ortom, resolved to give more time to the various parties for out-of-court discussions and settlement.

It will recalled that in the last adjournment, the Jime camp had sought time to settle out of court.

Appearing for Jime was S A Orkuma and many others while ST Hon for the defendants as usual. Orkuma told Justice Ivoh Chukwu that "there was no settlement" and that Ortom's camp didn't approach them for settlement.

Hon on his part told the court that since the settlement arrangement came from Jime's camp, they waited for them to make the first move.
During the ensuing argument, the court heard for the first time that it was actually the President-elect , General Muhammadu Buhari who contacted Jime.

The court also understood that catholic bishops and other stakeholders were also making frantic efforts to reconcile the parties.

On hearing all these, Justice Chukwu said he would still give the parties more time to settle out of court. He said as a man from Ebonyi State, he knew that whatever affected Benue would have a spill over effect into his state; moreso, since the Church in Benue and the parties didn't meet in the last adjourned date, it would be more appropriate if the parties meet before proceeding with the case, if there was any need afterwards.

He warned that, as a lover of peace, he wanted the matter settled out of court, but  if it failed, he would proceed with the case which, in the end, will go one way or the other.

The case was adjourned for 26th May, 2015.
