South Africa Distances Self From Statement Made By Clayson Monyela Against Nigerian Envoy Recall

South African government has distanced itself from the statement made by the spokesman of the Department of International Relations And Cooperation (DIRCO), Clayson Monyela, on the recall of Nigeria's envoy over xenophobic attacks.

Briefing the media along with other members of the Inter-ministerial Task Team on Tuesday, the Minister in the Presidency, Jeff Radebe, said the statement was not the official position of the South African government and that South Africa maintains in a cordial relationship with Nigeria.

"I will reiterate our position, we still have cordial relations with all the members of the African Union… very cordial relations with the Federal Republic of Nigeria," Radebe said.

Unfortunate And Regrettable

Monyela had released a statement criticising Nigeria's decision to recall its High Commissioner to South Africa for discussions about the xenophobic attacks and impact on Nigerians in the nation.

"It is unfortunate and regrettable that a sister country like Nigeria would take such an action even when it is clear that the government of South Africa is taking steps to stop the attacks on sovereign nationals," Monyela said on Sunday.

The statement revealed that the Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa, had just returned from Indonesia to attend the Africa-Asia Summit and the 60th Anniversary of the historic Bandung Conference and the Nigerian delegation present at that gathering did not express an intention "to formally raise the issue" with the South African side.

It, however, stated that "South Africa would remain committed to a strong bond of friendship and bilateral relations with Nigeria".
Xenophobic attacks that started on March 20 after a Zulu king, Goodwill Zwelithini, made a statement against foreigners working in South Africa.

He said he was taken out of context. After several deaths were reported, Nigerian lawmakers advised the presidency recall  the envoy for briefing.

Gen. Buhari Lists Out 10 Challenges That Will Bedevil His Administration

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari said there are at least 10 challenges ahead of his in-coming administration and has sought the support of the new legislators in tackling them.

He was speaking on Wednesday at the induction of new members of the national assembly organised by the National Institute for Legislative Studies in Abuja.

The challenges he listed are:

*General insecurity and insurgency "that has caused extreme human hardship and destruction of lives, livelihoods" in the north-east and north-west

*Environmental degradation in the Niger Delta

*Decline in revenues due to fall in oil prices

*Endemic corruption "which has crippled human and infrastructure development for decades"

*Poor provision of power supply "which has had a crippling effect on development of small businesses"

*Deindustrialization for the past three decades leading to closure of many industries and migration of many to other African countries

*High levels of unemployment and especially youth unemployment which Buhari put at 40%

*High cost of governance "that has been crowding out capital and human development"

*Erosion of public social services such as infrastructure, health and education.

*Lack of development in the agricultural and solid mineral sectors.

He said he hoped to work closely with legislators to tackle the challenges, noting that the legislature is a critical component and necessary ingredient of democracy and good governance.

Buhari told the lawmakers: "The legislature by nature is inherently democratic in the sense that all members are equal and are elected representatives of the Nigerian people. As President-elect, I recognise this fact and believe that legislators carry this heavy burden of representation with all the seriousness it deserves.

"For a president to be successful in addressing community development and general welfare of the various people of the country, he or she would benefit from working closely and in harmony with the legislative arm of government.
"I therefore commit myself to working with the legislature as development partners motivated by the desire to deliver good governance."

He commended Nigerians for their role during the general election, and commended President Goodluck Jonathan for accepting the results of the election "before final announcement was made".

FG To Buhari: Avoid Creating A Parallel Government While The Government Is Still On

The Federal Government on Wednesday has warned against utterances and actions that are capable of portraying the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as running a parallel government at a time President Goodluck Jonathan is still fully in charge.

Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman, disclosed this at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Jonathan in a report by PUNCH

Sulaiman told State House correspondents that the council considered the state of the transition programme and took exception to some utterances and terms of reference of the transition committee set up by Buhari.

The minister, who is the chairman of the Technical Subcommittee of the outgoing government's transition committee, said the council noted that such actions were suggesting that the current government was either being stampeded or being intimidated.

He said,

"We did receive from the incoming government's transition committee some terms of reference which we looked at critically and council did agree with. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan remains the current head of government of this country.

"The incoming government should avoid creating a parallel government while the government is still on.
"We take exception to some utterances and some of the terms of reference that look as if the current government is being stampeded or intimidated.

"Council frowned on ‎most of the statements, most of the provocations and council members are advised to work in line with the terms of reference of the current government.

"Council members are also told that the terms of reference as formatted by our transition committee should be strictly complied with.

"When the incoming government takes over government, they can come out with their programmes, they can come out with their own ‎agenda, they can decide to come out with policies in the way they feel like.

"This government remains resolute to the various programmes and projects ‎it is pursuing and the government will continue to do that until the morning of May 29."

When he was asked to mention some of the terms of reference of the incoming government's transition committee that the outgoing government was not comfortable with, Sulaiman asked journalists to go and do their investigation.

He warned that Jonathan's magnanimity should not be taken as a sign of cowardice.

"The magnanimity of ‎Mr. President should not be taken to be cowardice.

"That is why Mr. President and indeed council members enjoined Nigerians to see the olive branch extended to Nigerians and international community as a way of keeping this country intact and as a way of ensuring peace in Nigeria.

"As such, whatever the outcome of the election, what is important is Nigeria's national interest. And that national interest should be protected, enhanced and promoted at whatever level we are.

ORTOM CONDEMNS RENEWED VIOLENCE IN AGATU, GUMA

The Benue State Governor-elect, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, has condemned the renewed violence in Agatu and Guma local government areas of Benue State and appealed to security agencies to redouble efforts to stop further escalation of the situation.

Chief Dr Ortom was reacting to reports of the recent clash between communities in Agatu as well as attacks on several communities in Mbadwem council ward of Guma local government area last Saturday both of which claimed more than 30 lives.

The Governor-elect pledged to collaborate with relevant authorities to find a permanent solution to such crises.
He described the development as sad, unfortunate, avoidable and reprehensible.

The former Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment lamented that the violence which usually took a toll on human lives and property further compounded the abject poverty of the people in the affected areas and sets the clock of development backwards.

He commiserated with the families of those who lost loved ones in the areas and prayed that God would comfort them even as he appealed to governments at all levels, individuals and organizations to provide support that would cushion the effect of the crisis and mitigate humanitarian problems.

Chief Dr Ortom noted with concern the concerted influx of herdsmen into all parts of the state this year and called on security agencies, traditional and community leaders to be proactive in forestalling further attacks and promoting peace building and mutual coexistence efforts.

While emphasizing that peace was imperative for development, he said the solution to the incessant clashes between farmers and herdsmen remained the establishment of ranches while communities must imbibe dialogue and other legal ways as means of resolving conflicts.

ORTOM BREAKS SILENCE OVER SUSWAM’S APPOINTMENT OF CHIEFS AND MASSIVE RECRUITMENT

Benue State Governor-elect, Dr. Samuel Ortom has raised alarm over alleged attempts by the incumbent Governor, Dr. Gabriel Suswam to impose 10 first class chiefs on parts of the state before the May 29 handing over date.

"We are aware that the outgoing governor has rushed a law creating 10 first class chiefs in the state. He has also prompted the Tiv Traditional Council to begin the appointment of six of these first class chiefs with the view of presenting them with staff of office before 29th May 2015."

"Considering the importance of the traditional institution in our state, it is unacceptable to rush this law. Our state has been literally grounded and the most important objective at the moment should be how to offset salaries and allowances owed workers and stabilise for a smooth take off."

Ortom while briefing newsmen in Makurdi yesterday also said he received information of a last minute massive recruitment into government ministries, parastatals and agencies as well as indiscriminate promotion of civil servants in the state.

Represented by the Deputy Governor-elect, Chief Benson Abounu, Ortom lamented that the move was a hurried attempts by the outgoing governor to commit the incoming government in several ways without the courtesy of consultation.

"This is happening when workers and pensioners are owed salaries and pensions in arrears of about six months and the debt profile of the state is unknown."

The Governor-elect warned that the said recruitment however documented in addition to the promotions were done in bad faith and cannot stand stating that beneficiaries and civil servants being used to perpetrate the illegality must be ready to face the dire consequences.

What is the Difference Between Love and Lust?

Enyi ma ehen, ema enkpo pon!
The above Idoma adage lingers as I daily see how people suffer as a result of ignorance. Knowledge is Power!
In the article of today, we shall see the clear difference between lust and love and most importantly, why marriages fail.

As a matter of fact, this is what socialetherapy blog is bent on giving to the society.

Which of the following marriages often fail?
*Church Marriage
*Islamic Marriage
*Traditional Marriage
*Court Marriage

About two weeks ago, I posted a short article on Love, it explains what true love is all about. I'm seriously worried about how people confuse love with LUST. You see a man who burns with lust, and yet, he'll tell say to you, "I love you". Is that really LOVE? Hell NO!!!
Now, on the subject, "why marriages fail", in that article, I pointed out that nothing lasts forever except love-real love, when the cord that binds a marriage or friendship together is love, such is bound to enjoy all that it has to offer, but when it's built on what one or an eye can see, and it so happened that such a thing fails, there will be a crash!

What are those things that are momentary?
*Beauty
*Money
*Security
*Sex
*Companionship, etc.

When a relationship is built on any of the above or other ones you can think of, and it fails, fades or vanishes away, such a relationship will definitely crumble because the foundation which is not genuine has fallen.
What then is this real love and how can one get the genuine one?
Talking about real love, God is the perfect explanation of love! And those who use the 'kind' of His love never fail! He demonstrated this genuine love, and it cost Him disorder in His Kingdom, for the first time, "there was complete silence in Heaven". When real love is in play, 'self' is ignored! Pride dies down and its unconditional state is manifested. Isn't that what Jesus showed? He dared to open that book!

I wouldn't say that I love you because I know you have money or you're sexy, or because you can protect me from external forces .
Body
Security
Riches and the likes will fail, but real unconditional love will stay!

Now Ponder
Am I in LOVE or am in LUST?

Lust can be explained, but love is unfathomable.
Lust occurs as a result of what you can gain-of course, they are momentary, but you love because you love, you can't explain!

Do you love or you lust?
Do not leave the answer with you, share with us.
